Ensure that oven stabilizes at temperature listed in Step 1 before starting timed
sequence.
Set timer, stopwatch, or equivalent for 10 minutes. Heat lining, helmet, shock
(TPL) for approximately 10 minutes.
While lining, helmet, shock (TPL) heats, review steps 8 through 12 so that they
may be completed in 30 seconds or less.
Using oven thermometer (Item 14, Appendix B), check oven temperature every
3 to 5 minutes during the heating process. Adjust oven controls if temperature
falls outside the range specified in Step 1.
Describe fitting procedure to operator/wearer being fitted.
WARNING
Handle heated lining, helmet, shock (TPL) carefully; plastic layers will
be hot to touch. Touch fabric cover only. Wear gloves (Item 9,
Appendix E) if necessary.
NOTE
If headband fitting pads are installed in the helmet, remove them.
l Cover hook fastener on nape strap pad with pressure-sensitive tape (Item 23,
Appendix E) tape to ease installation of heated lining, helmet, shock (TPL).
l Steps 8-13 should be completed in less than 30 seconds.

Loosen the nape strap pad.
8. Remove lining, helmet, shock (TPL) from oven.
9. Squeezing sides of lining, helmet, shock (TPL) together to clear earcups, install
liner in helmet as shown in Figure 4-11. Ensure that label and holes are posi-
tioned toward front of helmet.
