5-6.  Communication Cord P/N CX-4708A/AIC. 
  
Communication cord, NSN 5995-00-816-3657, is used  to connect and provide communication between the 
earphone elements.   
 
a.  To install communication cord P/N CX-4708A/AIC, follow the procedures listed in Chapter 4.  The 
removal/installation instructions are the same for both Army/Air Force inner communication cords.   
 
b.    After  completing  the  removal/installation  procedures  for  communication  cord  P/N  CX-4708A/AIC, 
connect Air Force approved outer communication cord to P/N CX-4708A/AIC.    
 
c.  After maintenance has been completed on the helmet, have crewmember don helmet and perform 
helmet fitting procedures and communication check in accordance with technical order. 
 
NOTE 
 
There are several outer communication cords that are Air Force approved which may 
be used with communication cord P/N CX-4708A/AIC.  The user or mission will dictate 
the appropriate cord of choice.    
 
d.    Cable  Assembly,  curly  cord,  NSN  5995-01-289-4519.    The  communication  cord  assembly  is 
designed to provide greater mobility throughout the aircraft for the crewmember.   
 
e.  Cord Assembly, Electric, NSN 5995-00-296-8037.  This cord may be used in lieu of cable assembly, 
NSN 5995-01-289-4519; however, cable assembly, NSN 5995-00-296-8037, is shorter than cable 
assembly NSN 5995-01-289-4519.
