3-10. RIM CLENCHING CLAMP REPLACEMENT (cont)
NOTE
Tape applied in step h below reduces the
chance of slipping when doing the procedure
in step k below.
h. Attach flat pressure pad (18) to 50-lb force
gage (14). Apply small piece of pressure
sensitive tape to flat surface of pad.
i. Slide switch (15) on 50-lb force gage (14) to
center position to release reading on dial
indicator. Slide switch toward dial indicator
to hold new reading.
j. Measure and mark a spot (16) 3.5 inches
from pivot point of latch handle (5).
NOTE
Hold pressure pad flat against handle while
pushing to reduce chance of slipping.
k. Put pressure pad (18) on spot (16).
Observing dial indicator on 50-lb force gage
(14), push against latch handle (5) with 50-
lb force gage.
(1) If handle does not close before dial
indicator reads 14.25 lb, stop pushing.
Check clamp (8) for proper installation
over mated rims (9 and 10). If not
properly installed, reinstall clamp and
repeat k above. If properly installed, go
to step n below.
(2) If handle closes and dial indicator reads
less than 11.5 lb, go to step l below.
(3) If handle closes and dial indicator reads
between 11.5 and 14.25 lb, go to step p
below.
l. Pull latch handle (5) to release pressure.
Unhook T-bolt (6) from catch (7) and make
T-bolt shorter by screwing it into latch
handle (5).
m. Hook T-bolt (6) onto catch (7) and repeat
steps i and k above.
n. Pull latch handle (5) to release pressure.
Unhook T-bolt (6) from catch (7) and make
T-bolt longer by screwing it out of latch
handle (5).
o. Hook T-bolt (6) onto catch (7) and repeat
steps i and k above.
p. Pull latch handle (5) but do not unhook T-
