SECTION III PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE CHECKS AND SERVICES
2-4. Preventive Maintenance.
Preventive maintenance is the systematic care, servicing, and inspection of equipment to prevent the oc-
currence of trouble, to reduce out-of-service time, and ensure that the equipment is serviceable.
a. Systematic Care. The process given in para 2-5 covers routine systematic care and cleaning
essential to proper upkeep and operation of the test set.
b. Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services. The preventive maintenance checks and services
chart (para 2-5) outlines functions to be performed at specific intervals. These checks and services are
performed to maintain the test set in serviceable condition; that is, in good general (physical) condition
and in good operating condition. Certain checks are performed before, during, and after operation of
the test set.
(1) Before you operate. Perform your before (B) checks and services.
(2) While you operate. Perform your during (D) checks. If the test set fails to operate, trou-
bleshoot using the specified test equipment and the procedures in Chapter 4. Report deficiencies using
proper forms. (Refer to TM 38-750.)
(3) After you operate. Perform your after (A) checks.
